Please revise all details/sections that indicate the word "Decorative Cementitous Coating" and replace them with " Stucco" and indicate the number of layers, thickness and method of application for both wooden frame and masonry walls per FRC 2005 supplement Table 703.11. Below is for your information. In the 2005 supplement section R703.11 Weather protection was added to the residential code. At this time the City started adding comment notes to the drawings stating: All wall surfaces that are not masonry or concrete shall be provided with weather protection per one of the approved building materials listed in Florida Building Code 2005 Supplement Table R703.11. Decorative Cementituous Coating is not an approved covering over wood sheathing, however stucco is acceptable if applied per ASTM C926 and the following criteria: a. Exterior Stucco shall be installed to prevent bonding to water resistive barrier per FRC, Section R703.2.1. b. Exterior stucco shall be installed per ASTM C926; 3 coats with a minimum thickness of 7/8-inch per FRC, Section R703.6 & Table R703.11. c. Installation of exterior lathing shall be installed to meet the requirements of ASTM C1063 per FRC, Section R703.6.2. In the 2006 supplement section 1403.2 was modified to state " that a weather-resistant exterior wall envelope shall not be required over concrete or non-porous masonry walls" This means that, decorative cementituous coating CAN NOT, be used over exterior masonry walls, unless the block can be shown to be non-porous. Based on this information the drawings should list one of the approved wall coverings per section R703.11 or testing must be provided showing that wall construction is non-porous. Stucco or Exterior Cement Portland Plaster are the acceptable terms from this code section.
