Cuts, notches and holes in solid lumber joists, rafters, blocking and beams cannot be cut or notched more than one fourth the depth of the board and must bear on the heal portion of the cut per (FBC-R 802.7.1 and figure 802.7.1.1 and 802.7.1.2 ( please reconstruct per common practices or obtain an approved repair from the RDP).
