Rafters are shown to be 2 inch by 12 inch at 16 inches on center. Rafter wood species and grade not specified by archtiect on plans - but should have been. Rafters have been tapered from 2 inch by 12 inch to 2 inch by 4 inch and the taper extends approximately 6 feet into the span. Tapering a rafter in mid-span means the rafters are now 2 inch by 4 inch rafters and can no longer be considered to be 2 inch by 12 inch rafters. Rafters mst be proven to meet design loads based on them now being 2 inch by 4 inch rafters at 16 inches on center.
