Leak Credit Request
The City of Palm Coast Utility Department offers a Leak Credit Policy to help customers offset the costs of unexpected plumbing leaks. This policy provides partial credits for eligible leaks, assisting with high water bills caused by unforeseen issues. Unexpected leaks in plumbing systems can lead to high bills. The City of Palm Coast Utility Department encourages customers to promptly and thoroughly repair any leaks. To assist with the financial burden of a leak, the Utility Department offers a Leak Credit Policy that provides partial credit for eligible leaks once within a rolling 24-month period.
Key Features of the Leak Credit Policy:
- Eligibility: The credit can be applied to no more than two affected months. This policy is designed to help customers offset a portion of the costs associated with certain plumbing failures, though it will not cover the full expenses of a leak. Customers must continue to pay their water bills while awaiting the processing of a leak credit.
- Ineligible Situations: The policy does not grant adjustments for the following circumstances:
- New landscaping
- Guest visits
- Pool repairs
- Sprinkler system malfunctions
- Leaving a hose on
Guidelines for Leak Credit Requests:
- Submission: Requests must be completed and submitted within 90 days of the first affected bill date. Credits will not be given if a credit was given in the last 24 months.
- Documentation: A copy of the repair receipt/quote will need to be provided. Pictures can be added for clarify, but a plumber receipt or specific parts needed for repair is required.
- High Bill Requirement: The high bill must be at least four times higher than the average bill for the past 12 months.
- Coverage: If approved, the water adjustment will reduce higher than normal consumption amounts, to lowest tier rate. The adjustment will not reduce the number of water gallons billed. The sewer rate will not be adjusted if it went into the sewer system. The adjustment will not reduce the number of gallons you were billed for. The maximum credit allotment is not to exceed $500.00.
- If the leak repair indicates th water did not go into the sewer the city will give a sewer credit and only charge the resident for the average sewer.
- Payment Obligation: Submitting a request for a leak adjustment does not relieve you of your obligation to pay the billed amount by its due date. If your account is past due or at risk of disconnection, payment must be made to prevent service interruption and additional fees.
- Any leak that are from the sprinkler system that are connected to the main house meter will only receive a credit toward the sewer.
