The City of Palm Coast is pleased to announce that Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin attended the inaugural Florida League of Cities (FLC) Leadership Class, a premier leadership program designed specifically for Florida’s elected municipal officials.
FLC Leadership Class is a new leadership training opportunity from FLC University, the League’s one-stop shop for municipal training needs. This one-day course offers elected officials a unique opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and engage in meaningful dialogue with fellow leaders.
Reflecting on his experience, Mayor Alfin said, "This course has equipped me with invaluable skills and strategies to better serve the residents of Palm Coast. It reinforced the importance of proactive communication and collaborative decision-making in effectively addressing the needs of our community. We’re determined to make Palm Coast a model municipality for the region and state.”
The program offers valuable insight and practical tools to develop municipal leaders, such as communication fundamentals and leadership best practices. After completing the program, Mayor Alfin is now a member of FLC Leadership Class I.
“Leadership is about the ability to inspire positive change for the good of our community,” said FLC President Greg Ross, Mayor of Cooper City, who is also a member of Leadership Class I. “As leaders in our communities, our role as local elected officials is pivotal in shaping the future of our cities. This program is an excellent example of the comprehensive leadership training and tools the League provides its members.”
FLC Leadership Class is offered only to elected officials who have completed FLC’s Institute for Elected Municipal Officials (IEMO) II. IEMO is a two-part training program through FLC University. IEMO I is designed for newly elected officials and those with less than one term in office, while IEMO II is reserved for graduates of the IEMO I or those elected city officials who have completed one or more terms in office.
Those officials who completed FLC Leadership Class I can receive credit toward FLC University’s Certificate Program for Elected Officials, which recognizes elected officials who take part in the League’s many training opportunities. Once they sign up, this multi-level certificate of achievement program allows attendees to earn points for the activities and events they attend and participate in.
