Drivers across Palm Coast will soon notice big changes taking shape on local roadways. With multiple projects already underway and others set to begin before the end of the year, the City of Palm Coast and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are investing millions to improve safety, ease congestion, and prepare for the future.
FDOT is leading two resurfacing projects on U.S. 1. The southern segment, stretching from East Ridgewood Street in Bunnell to the north side of Palm Coast Parkway, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, work began in July on the northern stretch from Palm Coast Parkway to the county line. Both projects include drainage, signage, and pavement upgrades to improve road quality and safety along one of Flagler County’s most traveled corridors. FDOT is also nearing completion of the resurfacing of State Road 100 from Palmetto Road to Old Kings Road. This project includes new right-turn lanes, upgraded sidewalks, hurricane-resistant traffic signals, enhanced bike lanes, improved lighting, and median landscaping.
The City is also preparing to begin several important projects this fall. In October, crews will start milling and resurfacing Palm Coast Parkway between U.S. 1 and I-95. This $3.4 million project, funded through the city’s Street Improvement Fund, also includes improvements to turn lanes and is expected to run through January 2026. At nearly the same time, construction will begin on two new pedestrian crosswalks at the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway and Florida Park Drive. With a projected cost of $175,000, funded through impact fees, the project will make one of Palm Coast’s busiest intersections safer and more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction is also underway on Whiteview Parkway, where crews began adding turn lanes in August. The $6.5 million investment, funded primarily through state appropriations and the city’s Street Improvement Fund and impact fees, is aimed at improving safety and traffic operations along the corridor.
Looking ahead, Belle Terre Parkway will also see improvements at seven intersections, including new or adjusted turn lanes and safety enhancements at key locations including Royal Palms Parkway, Point Pleasant Drive, Rymfire Drive, Ponce Deleon Drive, Pine Grove Drive, Whippoorwill Drive, and Pritchard Drive. Funded through a combination of state appropriations and local impact fees, this $7 million project is designed to improve the safety of the roadway and keep traffic moving more smoothly.
In addition, even larger projects are on the horizon. Old Kings Road will be widened to four lanes between Kings Way and Frontier Drive starting in the summer of 2026. The nearly $30 million project, funded through state appropriations and local impact fees, will expand roadway capacity and prepare Palm Coast for continued growth. Meanwhile, the Matanzas-Palm Coast Parkway Connector Loop—funded with $125 million in state appropriations and FDOT support—will soon begin construction on overpasses over the Florida East Coast Railroad. This transformative project will strengthen east-west connectivity across the city.
“When we invest in our roads, we’re investing in every car ride to school, every bike ride with friends, and every trip to the doctor or grocery store,” said Acting City Manager Lauren Johnston. “These projects aren’t just about fixing today’s issues—they’re about building a Palm Coast that’s safer, stronger, and ready for the future our residents deserve.”
