Preservation specialist and public historian Preston Zepp serves as the City of Palm Coast’s Official Historian.

On February 3, 2026, the Palm Coast City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Preston Zepp as the City of Palm Coast’s Official Historian, recognizing his longstanding dedication to historical research, preservation, and public education throughout Flagler County.
Preston Zepp is a U.S. Army combat veteran, preservation specialist, and public historian who proudly serves as the appointed City Historian for the City of Palm Coast. With a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and preserving local heritage, Preston has become a respected voice in Flagler County’s historical and cultural community.
A disabled veteran, Preston served in the United States Army during Operation Just Cause in Panama and later during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Middle East. Following his military service, he continued serving the public as a Volusia County Corrections Officer while building extensive leadership and management experience through roles with national companies, including Walmart, Lowe’s, and Home Depot.
Preston’s dedication to service spans generations. He comes from a proud military family that includes his father and oldest son, representing three generations committed to serving their country and community.

As City Historian, Preston works to preserve, document, and share the rich history of Palm Coast and Flagler County. He serves as a Preservation Specialist and board member with the Flagler County Historical Society and is a founding member of the Kings Road Historic District. He also serves as lead historian and writer for the district’s public history platform, where he engages thousands of followers through historical research, archival discoveries, photographs, stories, and educational content that bring the region’s past to life.
In addition, Preston serves on the board of Heritage Crossroads – Miles of History and works professionally with Flagler County as the Master Site Files Administrator and Historic GIS Mapping Manager. Through public presentations, educational outreach, historical demonstrations, and community engagement initiatives, he helps connect residents and visitors to the people, places, and events that shaped the community.
Preston is also recognized for his hands-on expertise in historic preservation and restoration, including the restoration of antiques, artifacts, and historic materials. His work reflects a deep respect for preserving history not only through research and education, but also through the careful conservation of tangible pieces of the past.
Through his leadership, scholarship, and dedication to public service, Preston Zepp continues to play an important role in preserving and promoting the history of Palm Coast for future generations.
