K Section Drainage Improvements
The K-Section Drainage Improvements project is focused on upgrading aging stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage efficiency and reduce flooding risks in the neighborhood. The project includes replacing older stormwater pipes with modern box culverts at four locations beneath local roadways and evaluating existing ditches throughout the K-Section. These improvements increase the system’s capacity to move stormwater more effectively during heavy rainfall and strengthen the long-term reliability of the area’s drainage network.

K-Section Drainage Improvements
March 2026
Work is now finished on the K-Section drainage Improvement Project, which included replacing dated stormwater pipes with modern box culverts at four locations beneath local roadways and evaluating existing ditches throughout the K-Section. Having these new culverts in place will increase the system’s capacity to move stormwater more effectively during heavy rainfall and strengthen the long-term reliability of drainage network in the area.

January 2026
Final activities continued into January as work wrapped up at Kansas Path, with the road closure remaining in place through January 15 to allow for finishing work and site stabilization. Final pavement for all locations will be completed once construction activities across all four sites are fully finalized. The City will continue monitoring the upgraded system to ensure it is performing as designed and providing improved drainage throughout the K-Section.
December 2025
Construction activities expanded to multiple locations in December. Road pavement was completed on Kalamazoo Trail (43–46) and Kankakee Trail (71–76), restoring driving surfaces in areas where box culverts had been installed. On December 9, a road closure was implemented on Kansas Path between house numbers 3 and 8 to allow crews to complete work at Site #4. Box culvert installation at this site was completed on December 19, marking another key milestone in the project.
November 2025
Major progress was completed in November. Installation of the box culvert at Site #1 (Kalamazoo Trail) was finalized on November 5, allowing the roadway to reopen to traffic. Work then shifted to Site #3 on Kankakee Trail, where a road closure was implemented between house numbers 71 and 76 beginning November 3. Box culvert installation at this location began on November 14. These improvements continue the effort to replace aging infrastructure and strengthen stormwater flow throughout the K-Section.
October 2025
Construction continued at Site #1 on Kalamazoo Trail throughout October. On October 9, crews began installing the new box culvert, replacing the aging stormwater pipe beneath the roadway. This phase of work marked a significant milestone, as the new structure will allow stormwater to move more efficiently through the system during heavy rain events. Construction activities remained focused on maintaining safety while minimizing disruptions to nearby residents.
September 2025
Work officially began on the K-Section Drainage Improvements project. The contractor mobilized to the site on September 8
