Pipes and Ditches

Pipes and ditches are a crucial part in our stormwater system. They capture and convey water collected from roadways and swales.

Pipes and Structures
Generally, consists of underground pipes, catch basins, manholes, and other subterranean components of a stormwater drainage system that are used to convey water from one area to another. The city maintains approximately 50 miles of piping and their associated stormwater structures throughout the city including routine inspection, repair, construction, and cleaning.

Ditches
Are a man-made, open drainage way in or into which excess surface water, groundwater, or stormwater drains either continuously or intermittently. The Stormwater and Engineering Department maintains over 150 miles of ditches throughout the city. This includes mowing, vegetation management, construction, and regrading. Ditches are some of the most essential components of our stormwater drainage system as they act as the primary means of conveyance from our swales to our canals.
